About Red Pencil Design
Red Pencil Design is the personal design studio of Michael R. Wahl Jr. I am an intern architect out of Birmingham, Alabama. I suppose one could say that I am a man of many interests. From an early age my twin sister, Molly, and I have had an interest in all things art and design related.
Originally I am from Decatur, Alabama, a small city of about 50,000 people in North Alabama. Neither of my parents are particularly artistically inclined, so where my sister and I got our interest in the area can only be attributed to our grandparents. They are the only ones I can really think of who have had shown great interest in the field; on one side through painting, and the other through pottery.
Growning up we did have actvities other than things of an artistic nature. I was deeply engrossed in Cub, and then Boy Scouts for many years, and our family has always loved traveling. We have never tended to be that typical southern suburban family whose kids play baseball and go hunting on the weekends. Instead of hunting and fishing you can find the Wahl family Hot-Air Ballooning.
Yes, that's right, Hot-Air Ballooning. Probably the chief rival for my time against my interest in all things design related is flying. Both my parents and I are FAA certified balloon pilots. Dad and Mom both hold commercial licenses, while I am a private pilot. Ballooning was a unique way to spend growing up, I'm often asked about what it was like when I was little, but honestly that's a longer answer than I am willing to post here. Sufficient to say it was interesting, unique, and fun.
My girlfriend, Nikki, will be graduating in a year from Birmingham-Southern College with a degree in Theatre. She's certified in stage combat, a second degree black-belt, and dead set on becoming a fight director.. and I've seen her in action, I think she could to it; so wish her luck.
